O’ DEATH … WHERE IS THY STING?

Christ hinders death from swallowing His saints when they die, and when they rise again, death shall, as to them, be swallowed up for ever. Where now is death’s sting, and power to hold? We are dead; but behold! in a moment, we live again, and shall die no more.

Death is overthrown and we are out of the reach of its destructive curse. The sting of death is sin; but Christ, by dying, has taken away that sting. He has made atonement for sin; he has registered remission of it. It may hiss therefore, but it can no longer hold us. The strength of sin is in the Law, but the curse of the Law is removed by our Redeemer’s becoming a curse for us.

While death may seize a believer today, it cannot sting him, or hold him in death’s web of power, for its bonds are loosed. Believers are at liberty in Christ Jesus, and are never again to be hurt by death nor imprisoned in its grave. Yes, Christ conquered death and spoiled the grave and through faith in Him believers share in His almighty and majestic conquest.

CHRISTIAN HOPE

True Christians shall not be moved away

From the hope of the glorious Gospel

Or in their excitement of eternal liberation

Whereby they are one day raised incorruptible.

The Christian hope is not vain, but solid

Built upon sure and sacred foundations

The purchase and power of their risen Lord

Promises multitudes of sure expectations.
